Canadian Jib Academy Finals at Mont Tremblant, QC : Words by Ali T, Photos by Jean-Denis Caron

It’s a wrap! 3 super successful Jib Academy’s have been completed in Canada. Special thanks to the Tremblant Telus Spin for hosting the final Jib Academy. We had asked our people at Tremblant for sunshine and they delivered!

Our QC Salomon Pro Coaches were out in full force. Thanks to JD Zicat, Alexis Godbout, Vince Gagnier, and Paul Bergeron for getting up super early after the T4 Coca Cola Finals the night before. Coaches Iannick B, Kaya Turski, Denise Jaworsky, Jen Crichton, and Kim Lamarre were also schooling the Academy all day long. DJ Mark and MC Guyaume were rocking the place all day long.

Skiers came from all over Quebec, New Brunswick, Ontario and Alberta to join the Academy! Special guests Brendan Mackay from Calgary, AB and Jamieson Irvine from Barrie, ON made their way to Tremblant after they won the Jib Academy in their respective regions.

After a quick athlete meeting the four Jib Academy groups were coached until just after lunch. Then we broke into a best trick competition. The qualifications went down on the trapeze and the box. Then the entire Academy voted for their top 16 favorite skiers to compete in a mini slopestyle session. The Academy then voted for their favorite skier of the day.

The skiers were throwin down super stylish, and big. The highlights were 450 in, 450 out by Alex Bellemare and Jamieson Irvine. There were 360 switchups on the flat box and on the trapeze. Hugo Pelletier was doing crazy reverse spins on the box. And there were countless pretzels.

The talent was sick so we gave out tons of prizes!

Sebastien Eaves will be the proud owner of a pair of 2009 Salomon SPK boots for his “best tricks” collection.

SURPRISE! Throughout the tour we have been telling everyone that there would only be one winner of the trip to Mammoth California to hang with the Salomon Pro team but guess what?  That’s right; we couldn’t just choose one skier we had to choose two!!

 
Stefan Curtis from Fredericton New Brunswick and Alex Bellemare from St-Boniface, Quebec are both packing up and heading west on May 4th for 5 days of getting rad with Simon Dumont, Sammy Carlson, Kaya Turski, Mike Douglas, Mike Clarke, Mark Abma and many more. Take your sunscreen boys!
