C’est sous un grand ciel bleu que ce Samedi 10 mars s’est déroulé la deuxième étape de la Jib Academy à Ski Saint Bruno, QC.
Les shappeurs de la station ont fait des merveilles pour remettre en état le snowparc suite à la pluie du Vendredi, et ont ainsi permis aux 50 jeunes riders de venir s’éclater.
L es athlètes Salomon JD Zicat, Jen Crichton et Antoine Bourassa étaient impatients de voir ce que les skieurs de Québec sont capables de faire. Après un warm up rapide et quelques runs d’échauffements, place aux runs de qualifs sous les yeux des juges et avec leurs conseils.

Les riders placent la barre très haut avec des switch, spin et front out sur les rails et 360, switch rodéo et Cork 720 en jumps. La matinée passe vite et la faim se fait ressentir. Après un casse croute bien mérité, la compétition reprend avec une session de rail jam. Des prix à la clé encouragent les riders à mettre en pratique les conseils des coachs et à faire des tricks avec style.

Vient le temps des délibérations. Le haut niveau des riders n’a pas rendu les choses faciles pour les coachs de choisir 14 finalistes.

Les finales sont lancées et consistent en 2 rails et 1 gros jump. Chaque finaliste a le droit à 2 runs et le meilleur des deux compte. Malgré la fatigue qui se fait ressentir, les jeunes envoient tout ce qu’ils ont et nous montrent des spins impressionnants. Simon Gingras et Ben Morissette qui étaient sur le podium l’an passé au Jib Academy de Mont Orignal nous ont montré qu’ils s’étaient entrainé cette saison. Simon plaque un blind out, 4 in 2 out sur les rails et finit avec D-spin 9 qui l'emmènent à la troisième place du classement. Benoit arrive second avec des réceptions propres sur un 4 in 2 out, 2 in et cork 900 grab. Mais c’est Alphé Bourdeau avec ses 450 et 270 on sur rails, un cork 9 et pour finir lors de son second run un solide cork 1080 qui monte sur la première marche du podium !

The second stop of the Jib academy went down this past weekend, for the first time, at Ski Saint Bruno, QC. Salomon pro team JD Zicat, Jen Crichton and Antoine Bourassa were excited to come coach and judge competitors under a bluebird sky.
Thumbs up to Saint Bruno shapers who did an amazing job reconditioning and reshaping the snowpark after the rain on Friday!

The day started with a warm-up session led by JD and after a few runs, qualifications were on! Under the eyes of coaches judging them, kids didn’t take long to show their skills on rails and jumps. The level of freestyle was good and riders were eager for tips from Salomon athletes in order to be on the top 15 for the finals. Switch, spin and front out on rails and 360, switch rodéo and Cork 720 in jumps, the morning flew past as skiers had a yearning appetite.

After a nice and filling lunch, competition is back again with a rail jam session. With rewards thrown in, riders tried their best to put their coach’s advice into practice and execute tricks with the most style yet.



The top 14 males and top 3 females were finally announced in order to be a part of the finals to win the Mammoth trip in May.

The finals were of a 2 run format with 2 rails and 1 big jump. Even if the tiredness could be felt in some of the participants, competitors were killing it and demonstrated a variety of tricks including some good looking cork 9’s, switch 7’s and rodeos. Simon Gingras and Ben Morissette were on the podium last year at the Jib Academy at Mont Orignal and showed us they had trained this season. Simon’s winning run was a blind out, 4 in 2 out on rails and a D-spin 9 to end up in third place. Benoit secured the second place with clean landings on a 4 in 2 out, 2 in and cork 900 grab. But Alphé Bourdeau amazed everyone with his smooth 450 and 270 on rails, a cork 9 and during his second run a solid cork 1080 that pushed him to win the top spot!

It hasn't been the greatest winter for most of us, but we know how to throw down and have a good time shredding the park with our friends all day!
