Salomon Jib Academy Canadian Stop #1 2009 : Jib Academy takes over Mount St. Louis Moonstone, ON, Canada

Canadian members of the Salomon Pro team woke up very early at a secret location north of Toronto on Saturday morning. Well, it really wasn’t that secret, a few skiers at another Southern Ontario park may have witnessed a few of the Salomon team members throwing down on Friday night.

The Salomon crew was pumped to head on over to Mount St. Louis Moonstone to coach the first stop of the Canadian Jib Academy Tour in 09!

There was a nice glow over the hills and we were excited that it wasn’t raining!

Alexis Godbout, Kaya Turski, JD Zicat, Jen Crichton, Dave Bishop, Denise Jaworsky, head coach Iannick B and a whole heap of volunteers greeted the 65 Jib Academy participants at registration. 

There were lots of familiar Ontario freesking faces and even one participant, Sacha Cavallero came all the way from Mont Tremblant to take stab at winning a trip to Mammoth, California!

Things got started when JD Zicat led everyone through his SPK bootcamp of stretching and pushups. What a machine, no one needed their arms that day did they?

Skiers broke into their groups with their coaches and started to slay the Outback park! Lapping, lapping, lapping, free lunch, laughing, lapping!

The format of the day is quite simple; learn some tips from your Pro Salomon coach in the morning, then vote for your favourite skier of the day in the afternoon. It’s like the peoples choice awards for skiing. The top skiers then have their own mini slopestyle jam. Then the whole Jib Academy votes again for their favourite skier who then continues onto Mammoth to represent Canada and ski with the International Salomon Pro team.

Once lunch was over everyone had the chance to do a few laps on there own while the coaches and participants watched each other and then the Jib Academy voted for these finalists;

Once the jam sesh was over it was time to give away a HEAP of swag and prizing from Salomon Smith, Skull Candy and Momentum Ski Camp. It was really tough deciding on the top shredders of the day because the steeze and tricks from everyone were quite fascinating and off the hizzy for kids so young!

Jamieson Irvine took home the giant Jib Air plane ticket. Throwin down cork 9 tails, rodeos, switch cork 5,7’s, 9’s and 630 pretzel out confirmed that he would be lining himself up in the Mammoth Park with Sammy Carlson, Simon Dumont, Alexis Godbout, Charles Gagnier, Matt Walker, Bobby Brown, Kaya Turski and many, many more Salomon Pros.

Salomon and Smith couldn’t end a day without a good ol’ fashioned swag toss! Product was flying and everyone walked home with some sweet swag!

Just think what has happened in the past 10 years! Some of these Jib Academy participants weren’t even born yet in 1999! We know one thing that was born in 1999, something that made this Jib Academy day possible, that’s right the Salomon Teneighty! Phew, thanks for twin tips Salomon! This day would have been way different without them!!
