2008 JIB ACADEMY FINAL- LAST DAY!09/05/2008
On Thursday, sunburned skiers made the most of their last day in Mammoth during Jib Academy final. Athletes from Sweden, Norway, Switzerland, USA, Canada and France stepped up their game, prompting each other to learn new tricks and impressing the Salomon pros. It was another sunny day and for most, their last chance on snow for the season. Some crazy tricks were being thrown including long trains of huge superman fronts, massive switch 10’s and stylish grabs. As usual, Mammoth’s park was in top form and all of the skiers rode until last chair. Everyone learned at least one new trick and most were able to convince Mike D to use the follow cam for a run or two.
After an exhausting day, the crew headed in to town for some dinner and games. The evening concluded with an amazing slideshow and awards ceremony showcasing all of the week’s action on and off the hill. Athletes were thrilled to have the chance work with skiing best photographers including Scott Markewitz, CKO and Jean-Marc Favre.
The invitation to Mammoth was the ultimate prize for these young skiers however, there were a few legit awards handed out. These prizes included $500 in travel money to App Mountain’s Charlie Owens, a free week at Windell’s Camp to Sean Jordan, and Kim Boberg won a trip to Stockholm, Sweden for this year’s Peak Performance King of Style big air event! Besides these young jibber awards, Elling Starrem from Salomon Norway won the best “Over 30” trick with his first super clean 900!
After an amazing response this season, the Salomon Jib Academy will continue next year with even more countries involved. Look out for athletes from Japan, Great Brittan, Spain and Austria to join the Tour! Salomon would like to sincerely thank Mammoth Mountain Resort for hosting the Jib Academy Final for the 2nd year in a row, and all resorts, partners, athletes and parents who made this year’s tour an amazing success. See all of you young park slayers next year! It never felt so good to be underage!
