Salomon Freeski Team sets stage to go big at the 2008 Winter X Games

Five members of the Salomon Freeski team will be participating in three different freestyle events at this years Winter X Games

Ogden, UTJanuary 17, 2007— From January 24th thru the 27th, the hottest names in winter sports will be flocking to Aspen, Colorado to participate in one of the biggest competitions of the season, the Winter X Games. This year the Salomon Freeski team will be there in full force.

Coming into this year with a combined total of 15 years of X Games experience and numerous podium finishes, the Salomon Freeski team is seasoned but fresh and looking for more hardware to hang around their necks.

Simon Dumont is back and boosting higher than ever. He will be participating in both Skier Superpipe, Slopestyle and the new Big Air competition. At the age of 21, Simon already has four medals in the Superpipe, two of which are gold’s he won at the X Games event in 2004 and 2005. Simon also has two fourth place finishes in Slopestyle. This year it’s all about reclaiming his gold in Superpipe.

Recent high school graduate Sammy Carlson will be competing in both the Skier Superpipe and Slopestyle. Last year was Sammy’s first Winter X Games and he walked away with a silver metal in Slopestyle at the age of 18. Sammy’s been training harder than ever and will definitely be the first one out practicing every day during X.

Charles Gagnier will be competing in both skier Slopestyle and Big Air. Gagnier currently has two X Games metals. He took home the gold in the 2005 Slopestyle and the bronze in the 2006 Best Trick, which replaced the Slopestyle event that year. You can expect some new insane tricks from Charles as it seems he likes to practice yoga in the air.

John Symms will make his return to the X Games this year when he competes in the skier Superpipe. Prior to this year, John competed in the 2003 X Games Superpipe where he finished 7th, after which he attended the University of Utah and received his degree in Mathematics graduating cum laude in May of 2007. Arguably the smartest guy on the Salomon team, let’s see if Symms’ theorems can help him to the podium in this year’s Superpipe.

Late addition, Matt Walker was granted one of the final spots in this year’s Slopestyle event. This will be Matt’s first X Games competition.
