Interview
What were your main shootings, filming and freeride sessions last winter? Any trips?
Last winter was an amazing winter. It started back at Sentry Mountain lodge for some amazing pillow skiing. Then I headed to Bralorne and blew up my sled. The next day I got on a Salomon trip to Europe due to Mark’s unfortunate incident with a tree. It was my first time to Europe and it was an amazing experience. From there I flew straight to Alaska for my first time and had a super rad trip to Haines. After Haines it was back to Europe, this time we checked out Italy, the place is sick. Back home for a couple of days and then headed up to Chatter Creek for some end of the season skiing. It was a great way to end the year and we got some sick shots. It was a crazy winter of traveling and new experiences.
What about your projects for next winter: contests, filming, photo shooting, traveling…?
Next winter will be spent shredding pow and dedicating my winter to filming a segment with MSP. Much the same as last, but it is to fun to change.
What about the new Salomon Freeski range? What do you like the most in these new skis?
The best thing about the new skis is the Rocker technology. It makes skiing powder even funnier than it already is, which is saying a lot. The Rocker makes skiing through pow like slicing butter.
What about your skiing career: Where did you start? What were the main steps of your career?
I started skiing when I first moved to Canada from Australia when I was five and half. I spent the next 10 years ski racing around western Canada! From there I started skiing with the Rocky Mountain Freeriders (RMF) and started pursuing a freeskiing career. After four years of skiing for smaller movie companies, I got my big break with Matchstick Productions and have been filming with them for the past three years.
Who is Chris beside skiing: Where and how do you live? What are your other passions and hobbies?
This summer has been a crazy one. My girlfriend and I are starting up a Bed and Breakfast in Revelstoke, BC. This requires us to do extensive renovations to the house to get it ready for the winter. Can’t wait to be done and on skis again. Come check us out at the Cheeky Beaver Chalet!
