Summer Camp

Hello everybody here is a little story about my summer so far and what I'm up to in the off season.

Well, the last day I went skiing this season was in Ruka, Finland. We had a summer camp for young shredders at my home skiresort in the end of May. Ruka did an awsome job building a few jumps and setting up a bunch of rails in to the summer ski slope. There was about 30 kids lapping our private summer park all day long and it was great. At the end of the day we had some trampoline sessions and football. There will be loads of youngsters coming out of Finland in next years, watch out;)

Definitely the highlight of the summer was the trip to Ukkohalla, which is a great place to go for wakeboarding. I went there with my skier buddy Matti Raty to write a story for a  Finnish skiing mag, called Skimbaaja. We were super stoked to try that cable-wake-run for the first time. (or whatever it’s called). There was no boat pulling us, it was a machine pulling a cable around the lake. I know, it sounds grazy. But we were amazed how well that thing worked, so we rode all day long, good times!! And also because the weather was super warm, which is a sort of unusual around here…  Later on we found a new miniramp, which was still under construction, but who cares, we ended up having a banger session anyway!

Many people might know that it’s awesome to travel back to your home town after being away for a while. I just love to do that because it’s always the best feeling to see all the old friends from childhood and family, of course.

There is a big mid summer party in Finland, so we rented a huge cottage next to Ruka. It’s great because the sun does not set at all because we live that far away in the north, so you don’t need to sleep. You can just take it easy and hang out all day and all night long having a barbeque, playing cards, swimming, vodka… and the best thing ever: Sauna!

I also went to capitol of Finland, Helsinki, to find some decent street skateboarding… Well, after all I found myself chilling in old Olympic Games swimming stadium where I went with a couple of my fellows. It was awsome though! I’m a sort of scared of jumping into water from high objects but finally I was the man enough to flip off 10 meter height.

And that was the end of the summer. I just few over to down under a.k.a NZ. Here is a picture of me sitting next to Lake Wanaka. It’s winter time now and I'm starting to train again and it feels great to be back again on snow!!

cheers,

-AJ
