The first US Salomon Jib Academy of the year took place this Sunday in western New York. Holiday Valley generously hosted the event, which was available for free to anyone who was 16 or younger. The Salomon crew rolled into town and was warmly welcomed by excited locals who were ready to shred.
Dozens of groms came from all areas of the east, eager to compete, and to ski with the Salomon team. Despite the cloudy weather, all the youngsters were in high spirits and were anxious to get on the hill. After everyone received some free swag courtesy of Salomon, the kids were off to the slopes for the morning session.
The morning was filled with laughs, bails, stomped tricks, and a guest appearance from Radio Ron. Trains of spread eagles and daffys were a testament to the true purpose of the Jib Academy tour; HAVE FUN! Salomon team members, John Symms, Cody Ling, Keri Herman, and Seth Warner coached nearly 60 competitors as they tore apart Holiday Valley’s terrain park.
New and old friends alike, retired to the lodge at noon for a free lunch on Salomon. A pizza buffet with soda was more than enough to refuel and wire up the kids for the afternoon final. Eleven competitors were voted into the finals by their peers; giving them a chance to win a weeklong trip to mammoth with Salomon team. Everyone who didn’t make the finals swarmed the park to watch their friends compete.
Some highlights of the finals include clean lip 270’s on the down rail by Dylan Manley, big rodeos by Ian Punnett and a smooth forward 1080. When all was said and done, Ian Punnett took home the win and received the all expensed paid trip to mammoth. We want to give a huge shout out to Holiday Valley and City Garage (one of the most legit ski shops ever) for hosting the event.
With one stop down and plenty more to come before mammoth, sign up now for your chance to ski with the Salomon team, and win your trip to Mam!!!
