Noah Killen Wins First Jib Academy at Seven Springs

The 2009 Jib Academy Tour kicked off at Seven Springs Resort on February 7^th. Over 70 athletes from 9 different states showed up to learn some new tricks and battle it out for the grand prize trip to Mammoth Mountain with the Salomon team in May.

After some solid attempts at stretching lead by first year Jib Academy winner and coach, Nick Martini, the participants were off to shred the park in their respective groups. The terrain park crew at the resort had everything dialed and we couldn’t have asked for nicer weather.

Before heading to lunch, Jib Academy athletes voted for one kid in their group that they thought deserved a spot in the afternoon’s final showdown. The final heat was stacked and included the talent of Sno Mountain Jib Academy finalist, Steven Larick and Snow Trails finalist, Gage Stemple. The twelve finalists were each allotted 3 runs through the jumps and then hiked the rail section for 20 minutes.

In the end it was the local hero, sixteen year old Noah Killen from Champion, PA who claimed the plane ticket to Mammoth. Noah impressed his peers with smooth rodeo 7’s and “Dadalian” switch-ups on the rails. “This was the chillest comp ever and everyone should get out to one of these if you can, said Killen. It was really fun to ski with Mike Clarke and all the guys.”

Right on the heels of Noah were Spencer Milbrocker in second, and Steven Larick in third. Both athletes will receive new Salomon set ups.
